It's a great week in first grade! Here's an overview of what your scholars will be learning this week: 

 ELA-Our story for the week is “How Leopard Got Hist Spots.” Our objective for the week is to understand lesson taught in the folktale, and sequence the events in the story. We are also focusing on writing words with the digraph ch. The spelling test will be Friday this week!

Math: We are finishing up Chapter 4 this week and we will be having our test this Wednesday 12/13. The students have learned to compare numbers, distinguish between adding tens and adding ones, and adding a two-digit number to a one-digit number. They have also learned how to count on into the next decade (tens). 

Science: This week in science we will finish up Chapter 3. Students are coming home with a test review tonight for homework, and the test will be tomorrow (12/12). Chapter 3 was all about how specific parts of plants and animals help them live and stay safe in their habitats. Vocabulary words to know are antennae, camouflage, root, stem, leaf, and flower.

Social Studies: -Scholars will finish up their unit 3 test about maps, directions, weather and Earth.  We will have a review day on Wednesday, and the test will be on Thursday.


Health: This week in health we will be learning about school hazards.  Students will identify common playground and physical hazards to figure out ways we can be safe at school.

It's a great week in first grade! Here's an overview of what your scholars will be learning this week: 

 ELA-Our story for the week is “At Home in the Ocean” Our objective for the week is I can ask and answer questions about a text read aloud, as well as writing words with the digraph th. The spelling test will be Friday this week!

Math: We are focusing on Chapter 4, place value concepts. The students are learning to compare numbers, distinguish between adding tens and adding ones, and adding a two-digit number to a one-digit number. They will also learn how to count on into the next decade (tens).

Science: This week in science we will continue on with Chapter 3. Discussing what can help protect animals, and what are some parts of plants. 

Social Studies: -Scholars will be learning about how weather and natural resources affect the way we live, as well as ways people in different places are connected. 


Health: This week in health we will be learning about what family is and what makes their family special.

 ELA-Our story for the week is “A Cupcake Party.” Our objective for the week is to understand story structure, as well as using articles in sentences and learning synonyms. The spelling test will be Friday this week!

Math: We are focusing on Chapter 4, place value concepts. The students are learning to represent 2-digits numbers as tens and ones. 
Homework will go home on Tuesday. 

Science: We are starting a new chapter.  Chapter 3 will cover how plants and animals live. 

Social Studies: -Scholars will be learning the difference between landforms and bodies of water. They will also identify the 7 continents and 4 oceans.

Health: This week in health we will be learning about self-esteem.

December 1: Awards Ceremony @ 8:45 and Dojo Celebration 
December 8: 2 hour early dismissal

It is a short week this week! Monday and Tuesday will be filled with Thanksgiving activities within the subject areas.  There will be no homework or spelling words this week, just be sure to read and fill out your reading logs.  Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
